On Iceland’s south coast, icebergs break from the glacier into Jökulsárlón lagoon, drift out to sea and wash up on black volcanic sand — a shoreline people call Diamond Beach. Glacier Lagoon sets that scene in stone: a great blade of blue kyanite rises like a wall of glacier ice behind clear quartz ‘icebergs’, a black tourmaline cliff and a glossy obsidian sphere, with deep-blue lapis lazuli and azurite on a shore of black stone chips — finished with frost-white ferns, a dark pine sprig and tiny lavender blooms, in a scalloped black pedestal bowl.

One of one. This is the exact garden in the photos — arranged by hand and photographed just as it is. There is only one; once it finds a home, it’s gone.

The energy

Protection, with a clear head. Black tourmaline and obsidian are long associated with grounding and protection; kyanite with calm, honest communication; lapis lazuli with wisdom and truth. A garden for holding your ground — and keeping your mind clear while you do.

  • Black tourmaline — Also called schorl, it grows in long, finely striated prisms. In crystal lore it is the go-to stone of protection and steady boundaries — traditionally kept by the front door.
  • Obsidian — Natural volcanic glass, formed when lava cools too quickly to crystallize. Polished obsidian once served as a mirror — one, owned by the Elizabethan scholar John Dee, is now in the British Museum. Long associated with grounding and protection.
  • Blue kyanite — Named from the Greek kyanos, ‘dark blue’. Long associated with calm, honest communication — and, in crystal lore, one of the few stones said never to need cleansing.
  • Lapis lazuli — Ground into ultramarine, the precious blue of Renaissance skies and robes, and inlaid in the funerary mask of Tutankhamun. Long associated with wisdom and truth.
  • Azurite — For centuries the most important blue pigment in European painting — and, as shiqing, in Chinese painting too. In crystal lore, azurite is associated with insight.
  • Clear quartz — The ‘master stone’ of crystal lore, long associated with clarity — fitting for a glacier scene, since the ancient Greeks believed quartz was ice that could never melt.

How to live with it

Where it shines: An entry console, a home office or a bookshelf at eye level. The black bowl looks striking against pale walls.

A Sunday-night ritual: Touch the black tourmaline and name one thing you won’t carry into the new week. Then touch the kyanite and name one thing you’ll say clearly.

Size

Bowl approx. 17 cm (6.7 in) across — our largest bowl; the kyanite rises well above the rim.

How it arrives: To travel safely, your garden ships in pieces — each crystal wrapped on its own, nothing glued — with a photo of this exact arrangement, so you can set it up just as you see it here.

Care

  • Keep indoors and dry; dust gently with a soft, dry brush or a puff of air.
  • Keep out of strong, direct sunlight to protect the colors of the stones and botanicals.
  • Contains small parts and natural stones — not a toy. Keep away from young children and pets.
  • Kyanite blades are brittle along their length — lift them by the base.
  • Azurite contains copper: never wet, wash or sand it, and wash your hands after handling.
  • The sphere can roll — keep it nestled in the chips.
  • The botanicals are delicate — dust them lightly with a soft brush.

A gift with meaning

For new homes, new jobs, and anyone learning to hold calm boundaries. In modern crystal lore, black tourmaline is often paired with Capricorn, and kyanite with Libra.

One of one, by nature: every crystal here is genuine natural stone, arranged by hand — the garden in these photos is the one you’ll receive. Crystal meanings reflect folklore and tradition — we share them as symbolism, not promises.
